Legendary producer Rick Rubin has worked with some of the greatest bands, including The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, and System of a Down. And after decades of watching some of the world’s greatest bass players, he has chosen his favorite of all time. The truth is, none can hold a candle to a certain ex-Beatle. Rubin named Paul McCartney his top bassist of all time in an interview with Mojo. Rubin said, “everything I’ve seen, Beatles-related, is either about the songwriting or Beatlemania… yet in my opinion, (McCartney) is the best of all bass players, he’s No. 1.”
