Paul McCartney and Jeff Beck teaming up for a song about the rainforest? It happened – and it’s finally seeing the light of day. McCartney shared the track this week, recorded for a 1994 radio campaign promoting vegetarianism and rainforest conservation. Beck plays guitar and offers a spoken-word plea to stop cutting down rainforests to create more grazing land for cattle.
McCartney wrote: “With the sad passing of Jeff Beck – a good friend of mine, and a great, great guitar player – it reminded me of the time we worked together many years ago on a campaign for vegetarianism. It’s great guitar playing ’cause it’s Jeff!” Unfortunately, Beck died earlier this month at the age of 78. The Englishmen was the guitarist for the Yardbirds, among other bands.
