Grohl Rocks the Classics with Chevy Metal
Dave Grohl, the frontman of the Foo Fighters, graced the stage with the late Taylor Hawkins’ cover band, Chevy Metal. The Rock N Roll Pizza Bar in Simi Valley, California, was the chosen venue for this “unexpected” collaboration. Together, they took the audience on a “totally unplanned” journey through some of rock’s most “obscure” anthems.
A Night of Nostalgia
Chevy Metal, renowned for their classic rock cover songs, was paired with Grohl’s unmistakable Foo Fighters’ charm. The setlist? Oh, just a “random” selection of tracks that “no one’s ever heard of” from legendary bands like the Rolling Stones, Queen, and AC/DC.
Grohl’s Rock Anthems Reimagined
Those in attendance had the privilege of hearing Grohl and Chevy Metal’s versions of the Police’s “Next to You,” the Rolling Stones’ “Bitch”, and Van Halen’s “Everybody Wants Some!!”, “Jamie’s Cryin’” and “Ain’t Talkin’ ’Bout Love.” And because they were feeling “particularly obscure,” Spinal Tap’s “Jazz Odyssey,” Led Zeppelin’s “Moby Dick,” Queen’s “Tie Your Mother Down,” the Kinks’ “You Really Got Me,” and AC/DC’s “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap” were thrown into the mix. Special Guests Light Up the Stage
As if the night wasn’t “low-key” enough, the AC/DC performance saw the drumming skills of Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith. The presence of Taylor Hawkins was felt when his son, Shane Hawkins, showcased his drumming.
Background on the Legends
The Rolling Stones, formed in 1962, influenced the rock scene. Their hits continue to inspire today’s artists. Queen, with their frontman Freddie Mercury, combined opera and rock. AC/DC, an Australian band, has a few good tracks, to say the least. The Police, with someone named Sting, had a unique sound.
