Pink Floyd Everywhere
Pink Floyd is undoubtedly one of the most influential bands in rock. In fact, the band’s influence has crossed into different genres! Here are five songs that you may be surprised included samples of Pink Floyd:
1) Salt-N-Pepa’s remix of their 1997 “Gitty Up” called “The Brick Track Versus Gitty Up.” It sampled “Another Brick in the Wall (Part II).”
2) The title song from the Broadway show “The Phantom of the Opera” has a sample of Pink Floyd’s “Echoes.”
3) Rufus Wainwright also sampled Pink FLoyd’s “Echoes” for the song “Between My Legs.”
4) Rapper Wiz Khalifa sampled “Keep Talking” for the song “B.A.R.”
5) Geto Boys, the legendary Houston rap group, sampled “Money,” Pink Floyd’s hit song, in “Let a Ho Be a Ho.”
But Pink Floyd also used samples for their own music. For example, “Wish You Were Here” contains a piece from Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4. The famous cash register sound in “Money” originates from a Sound Effects record created by Jac Holzman, founder of Elektra records. On “Is There Anybody Out There?” Pink Floyd samples their song, “Echoes,” and the T.V. show soundtrack for Gunsmoke.
Which of these is most surprising? What are other bands that are very sample-able?
