Tuesday marked Metallica frontman James Hetfield’s 58th birthday — and drummer Lars Ulrich celebrated by posting an open letter to his bandmate on Instagram.
“Happy birthday, James,” Ulrich wrote. “Here’s to nearly 40 years of crazy cool shenanigans of every kind imaginable, including an occasional raised middle finger, a little mugging for the camera… and lots of attitudes! Wouldn’t have it any other way. And as we always have to remember — just getting started! Love you, brother.”
Hetfield and Ulrich have been besties since 1981, when Hetfield answered a “musicians wanted” ad placed by Ulrich in a newspaper, leading to the formation of Metallica.
