Boys II Men Going Country?

The word on the street is that Boys II Men might be crossing over into the country world. CMT Host Cody Allen interview the guys from Rascal Flatts and this is what they had to say.

“In the future, we actually are talking about doing some stuff with Boyz II Men,” said lead singer Gary LeVox, and Jay DeMarcus added to the commentary. “We did Drop the Mic with them. So we rap-battled them, which was scary.”

In the past there have been few artists to come from the Hip Hop and R&B world cross over to country, but in recent years we have seen a bit more take the risk and successfully do it. Scott Borchetta president and CEO of Big Machine Records isn’t surprised, Big Machine also happens to be Tim McGraw’s label.

“When you look at what’s happening in country music today, a lot of the younger artists grew up with hip-hop as part of their DNA,” Said Borchetta. “So when you look at the foresight that Tim had to partner with Nelly, I think it gives you a sense of the vision Tim has for where music is now and where it’s going.”

Here are a few that have crossed over from Hip Hop and R&B over to country music:

In 2004 Nelly and Tim McGraw broke ground and got together to do “Over and Over Again”.

In 2013 Nelly was back collaborating with Florida Georgia Line to do a remix of Cruise.

In 2014 Mr. World Wide Pitbull crossed over to Country to do a remix with Jerrod Niemann.

2013 Pitbull joined Tim McGraw at the ACM Awards. This wasn’t a song he was in but did make an appearance for the ACM’s.

In 2012 Tim got together with R & B Artist Ne-yo and came out with “Only Human”.
