Go Your Own Way: Fleetwood Mac Tells All
Apple Original Films is bringing the legendary soundscape of Fleetwood Mac to life with a new documentary that tells the band’s story like never before—through their own voices. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Frank Marshall, the project marks the first authorized documentary about the iconic rock group.
A Story Told by Fleetwood Mac
The as-yet-untitled documentary will feature firsthand accounts from the band’s members, including archival interviews with the late Christine McVie, ensuring her invaluable contributions are an integral part of the narrative. Known for his ability to spotlight music legends, Marshall has previously directed The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart and a recent Beach Boys documentary for Disney+.
This film will chart the band’s journey from their bluesy beginnings to their rise as pop-rock royalty, showcasing their reinvention, resilience, and timeless artistry. The band is perhaps best known for their 1977 masterpiece, Rumours, which was shaped by personal turmoil and yielded enduring hits like “Go Your Own Way” and “Dreams.”
While details about the project remain under wraps and no release date has been announced, the documentary joins a growing slate of music-driven stories from Apple, offering fans a closer look at the band that redefined rock ’n’ roll for generations.
A Legacy of Triumph and Turmoil
The band’s history is as complex as their sound. Formed in London in 1967 by drummer Mick Fleetwood, guitarist Peter Green, and bassist John McVie, the group began as a blues outfit before evolving into genre-spanning rock icons. Their breakthrough came in the mid-1970s when the lineup solidified with the additions of Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham.
The band’s rise to fame was anything but smooth. The recording of Rumours laid bare their interpersonal drama: breakups between Nicks and Buckingham, and Christine and John McVie, as well as struggles with substance abuse, all became woven into the music. Despite—or perhaps because of—this turbulence, Rumours remains one of the best-selling albums of all time.
Fleetwood Mac endured many lineup changes and hiatuses over the decades, with key members departing and reuniting at various points. Christine McVie’s passing in 2022 marked the end of an era, but their music continues to resonate, a testament to their enduring artistry and the human stories behind it. Relive Fleetwood’s hit:
