I was in New York a few months after Prince died and you would see murals of him all over the city, just like the photo I took up above. It was crazy to see how much of an impact one person could have on the world.
It’s almost hard to believe that it’s been a year since Prince left this earth and jumped aboard the mother-ship of “The Lost But Never Forgotten Legendary Artists” I still remember finding out that Prince had passed. And It felt like I got punch in the gut. I instantly felt sick to my stomach.
It’s been 1 full year since he passed and what type of incluence has Prince had since his passing. Well according to Billboard Prince sold more albums in 2016 than any other artist.
“In the year after Prince‘s death on April 21, 2016, the Purple One’s catalog of albums and songs have sold a combined 7.7 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen Music, through the week ending April 13. Of that sum, 2.3 million were in traditional album sales, and 5.4 million were from digital song downloads. The bulk of his album and songs sales occurred in the month after his death: 5.65 million were registered between April 21 and May 19, 2016. Incredibly, for the full year of 2016, Prince sold more albums than any other artist — even Adele — with 2.23 million copies sold.”
Then Paisley Park opened up to the public in October of 2016 just 6 months after Princes death where everyday people can go see the place where Prince worked played and unfortunately died. It’s $38.50 to go in not bad.
Even athletes opened up to talk about Prince.Michael Jordan said “His impact not just on music, but on culture, truly can’t be measured,” in a statement to TMZ Sports. In June of 1997 the great Muhammad Ali, requested a sit-down with Prince.
During the Grammy’s Bruno Mars did an amazing job singing and performing to do a tribute to Prince. I think we were all on our feet for this performance.
There are many radio stations across the world who will be paying tribute to Prince today including Rewind 100.7. Every hour we will be play Prince on our staion.
