Matias Ferreira 28, graduated from the Suffolk County Police Academy in Brentwood, NY. Ferreira served as a Marine in Afghanistan. On the night of Jan 21, 2011. He was setting up for a mission and went to get more equipment. He jump off the roof and landed on a bomb that went off. He had to have both legs amputated. But after 3 months he was already walking.
Today is his first day on the job. His first assignment is to be a precinct patrol officer. He told Fox 5 New York he isn’t worried if he breaks a leg, or two on the job.
“If I break my leg I go the trunk of my car and put on a new one and I’m back on duty,”
